Flight from New York (JFK) to Santiago, CHILE (SCL):

Business Class was super comfortable. Tried out LAN airlines business class for the first time.

Flat bed for 10.5 hours, Salvatore Ferragamo amenities kit

Activities did in Santiago, CHILE:

  1. Free tour
  2. Funicular @ Cerro San Cristóbal and view of Santiago
  3. Virgin Mary who is pregnant
  4. Seafood @ Mercado Central
  5. Day trip to Valparaíso - a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Highlight(s) of this portion of the trip:

10.5 hours of business class was an amazing treat. We were able to utilize our AA points from a credit card sign up on this plane ride. Since LAN Airlines is a partner of AA's, we can use AA points to redeem a LAN flight.

With a 180-degree lie flat bed as our seats, we got to fully stretch out our legs. After being served with dinner and drinks, we freshened up with the Salvatore Ferragamo amenities kits that were provided by the staff, changed into our pajamas, and slept for the rest of the ride. Needless to say, we were fully rested and ready to explore when we landed.

Another memorable spot is the view of Santiago after taking a trolley (funicular) to the top of Cerro San Cristóbal. And the sitting-on-the-side-of-the-cliff-looking-at-the-city photo shoot is a must for all of us tourists who were visiting.

Lastly, we spent a day out at Valparaíso, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Besides being famous for its colorful houses, Valparaiso is very hilly throughout the whole city. That is why funicular railways, or "elevators", were created to transport people from the upper portions of the city to the lower surrounding areas. We were like little kids riding those "elevators", and checked out different views of Valparaiso (especially when they are only 15 to 50 cents USD per ride)! We highly recommend this day trip to experience a different side of Chile!
